Thy Sovantha, a young lady who is the rising star in Cambodian politics, and who is also the president of the Youth Affairs Organization (YAO), on Saturday, at the YAO headquarter, appointed hundred people from her NGO as representatives of the YAO in hundred communes in the country. Those representatives will be responsible for the YAO's development project in their commune for the year 2017-2018.

In her speech, she pointed out that since its inception, her NGO has done many things to help villagers to develop their commune, such as the construction of new roads, the reparation of old roads, and the construction of a number of irrigation system etc. She added that although such development was not a big scale development, it could help villagers to solve problem in their daily life.

She also mentioned about the necessity of the participation of the villagers in the development of their commune. Without this participation, a sustainable development will not be possible.

According to Ms. Sovantha, in a "Participatory Democracy" system, the participation of the constituents in the decision-making is needed. This kind of democracy tends to create opportunities for a broad range of people in community at grassroot level.
