On Monday, around two hours after Prime Minister Hun Sen raised a question whether the US Embassy in Phnom Penh is Cambodia's parents [tutor] or representative of the US Government in Cambodia, the US Embassy published a post on their Facebook page stating that one of many jobs the embassy is doing in Cambodia is to save Cambodian temples.

The embassy added that without proper preservation and conservation, future generations would not have a chance to see those temples.

"Cambodia has a rich and spectacular cultural heritage. Without active preservation and conservation, it could be lost to future generations. That is why we have provided over $4 million in recent years to help Cambodia save its cultural treasures, including Phnom Bakheng at the Angkor Wat complex, Cambodia’s most popular tourist attraction," wrote the embassy on their Facebook page.

However, a message «Watch out for #RedHerringsKH» and a logo of a red herring were also added to the post.

Besides this post about Cambodian temple conservation, on Sunday, the embassy has been also posting another message telling about the US aid to protect Cambodian last forests. And the sentence «Watch out for #RedHerringsKH» was also added to the post.

"Cambodia is losing its forests faster than any other country on earth. We’re working to stop that. We have helped Cambodia improve land management and preserve more than 2.6 million hectares of woodland. We have trained and equipped hundreds of forest rangers to stop illegal loggers. We are working in more than 100 Community Forests to help residents gain land titles. And we have helped over 15,000 rural residents find new sources of income other than harvesting timber," wrote the embassy.
