
Czech Republic would like also to continue to support the Cambodian health sector by providing financial aid, hospital equipment, and training to Cambodian medical students in different medical schools in the country. Doctors from Czech Republic would come to Cambodia to share their expertise with Cambodian doctors in the field of cancer, psychotherapy, cardiac surgery, women's health, and pediatrics.
Doctor Mom Bunheng, Minister of Health, told reporters on Wednesday that Czech Republic has supported Cambodian healthcare sector since the 70s. After the fall of the Khmer Rouge regime in 1979, Czech Republic helped Cambodia to rebuild and equip the referral hospital in Takeo province. Czech government also helped the Cambodian government to equip 11 health centers in the province. And a number of Cambodian patients were sent to Czech Republic for medical treatment.
"Czech Republic will continue to support our health sector. They will provide us what we need, particularly, the training of our medical students in different medical fields," said Dr. Bunheng.
Czech Republic has also agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperations with the Kingdom of Cambodia in the field of parliamentary.
In a meeting with Mr. Ivo Barek, vice president of the Senate of the Czech Republic, on Wednesday, Mr. Say Chhom, president of Cambodia's Senate, said that to strengthen the diplomatic relations between the two countries, a series of state visit would be organized in order to send senators to visit the senate in both countries and to share their experiences with each other in the field of law, socio-economy, trade, healthcare, education, culture, politics, and administration.
According to the Cambodian ministry of foreign affairs, the diplomatic relations between Cambodia and Czech Republic was first established in May 1956. In 2016, the volume of trade between the two countries reached $170 million. And so far, around 700 Cambodian students have received scholarship from Czech government to go to study in Czech Republic.
