Bill Longhurst, United Kingdom’s Ambassador to Cambodia, on Tuesday, met with Chea Somethy, Prey Veng province’s governor, in the province to talk about the UK’s scholarship for Cambodian student living in the province.

According to the embassy’s Facebook page, on August 23 morning, Ambassador Bill Longhurst met with the governor to talk about the issues around food security, youth, education, migration, agriculture, and scholarship.

“The Governor also welcomed our proactive works in promoting Chevening Scholarship and internship program to students in the province,” read a post on the embassy’s Facebook.

In response, the governor said thank for the good will of the British government as well as British people who kindly accepted to provide this scholarship to Cambodian students studying in the province’s Kamchay Mear University to be able to continue their master degree in the UK.

Mr. Somethy also asked the ambassador as well as the UK government to encourage British investors to come to invest in the province’s agricultural sector, and to construct rice mill to export rice.

According to Chevening Scholarship’s website, the scholarship is aiming to help future leaders around the world to develop their professional capacity in order to build positive relationships with the UK. It is funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and many partners.

Chevening offers two types of scholarship – Chevening Scholarships and Chevening Felloships. The candidates are selected by British Embassy and High Commissions around the world.

“A Chevening Scholarship offers financial support along with the opportunity to become part of the highly regarded and influential Chevening global network,” read the website.
