U.S. Ambassador to Cambodia William Heidt will swear in 69 Americans as members of the tenth cohort of Peace Corps Cambodia volunteers during a special ceremony 8:30 a.m., Friday, September 16, at the Himawari Hotel in Phnom Penh. The swearing-in ceremony for the newest group of Peace Corps volunteers coincides with the 10th anniversary celebration of Peace Corps in Cambodia. Six Peace Corps volunteers, including Cambodian-American Kim Thach, will be available to speak with members of the media after the swearing-in-ceremony.
U.S. President John F. Kennedy established the Peace Corps in 1961 to promote world peace and friendship. The goals of the Peace Corps are to build the capacity of men and women in interested countries and to promote mutual understanding between the United States and other countries.
