Cambodia will host an international tourism fair next October with the aim of showcasing the country’s tourist destinations to local and foreign travelers.
Thoun Sinan, local branch chairman of the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA), said the fair will be held at the Koh Pich Exhibition and Convention Hall on October 19 and 20.
“It is a new form of promotion to attract tourists – both local and foreign – and will help tour agents in their operations,” said Mr. Sinan.
“Tourists will be able to experience our hospitality at the event and see for themselves the beauty of the country,” he added.
Lor Thoura, director of the marketing and promotion department at the Tourism Ministry, said the event will help the government in promoting tourism and attracting foreigners to the country.
Cambodia received some 3.7 million foreign tourists in the first nine months of the year, up about five percent compared with the same period last year, according to the ministry.
Cambodia’s secretary of state at the Tourism Ministry, Tith Chantha, said this year Cambodia was expected to welcome up to five million foreign visitors, generating jobs for 600,000 Cambodians.
Ho Vandy, secretary general of the newly-founded National Tourism Federation of Cambodia, told Khmer Times recently the increasing number of tourist arrivals so far this year augured well for both the private and public sectors.
