About 4,000 runners from Cambodia and other countries gathered at the amusement park on Koh Pich Island in Phnom Penh, on Sunday to run a five kilometers marathon, to walk a 200 meters with bound legs, and to do other fun sports activities.
A local online newspaper reported that these sport activities were organized by the Cambodian Olympic Comittee in a view to educate young Cambodians about the meaning of the Valentine's day in Cambodia where a number of young Cambodians still think the Valentine's day is the day for them to sacrifice everything for their loved one, even their virginity. The money from this event will be used for different humanitarian funds.
Besides this marathon, the 7th Phnom Penh International Half Marathon will be held on 18th June, 2017. The starting point and finishing point will be in front of the Royal Palace that is close to the famous Mekong river.
