Before flying to Myanmar for a state visit, Deputy Prime Minister Hor Namhong told reporters on Sunday that there were 24 Cambodian private companies operating their business in Myanmar. And soon, another Cambodian specialized bank "Wing" will open its doors in that country.
Mr. Namhong added that Cambodia and Myanmar will continue to cooperate in the field of tourism due to the fact that the two countries have a similar well-know cultural center - the ancient capital Bagan in Myanmar is as famous as Cambodian ancient capital Angkor. Many tourists come to visit Bagan as much as Angkor. As a result, the two countries will join hands to encourage tourists to come to visit the ancient capitals in both countries.
He also said that in the near future, a direct flight from the United Arab Emirates to Cambodia via Rangoon will be established. This flight will allow many tourists to come to visit Cambodia as well as Myanmar.
Among the 24 Cambodian companies operating their business in Myanmar, ACLEDA Bank Plc. was the first Cambodian bank to open its doors in Rangoon in November 19, 2012, under the name ACLEDA MFI Myanmar Co., Ltd.
Back then, 26 Burmese employees were selected to come to Cambodia for a banking technical training organized by ACLEDA Training Center in Phnom Penh.
As of today, ACLEDA Bank Plc. has 259 branches and offices in Cambodia, 28 branches and offices in Laos, 06 branches and offices in Myanmar. Furthermore, the bank plans to expand its operations in the ASEAN region and in all potential countries along the Mekong River.
