The Ministry of Tourism and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) are collaborating on a study into the development of tourism in Preah Sihanouk province.

This will involve attracting more tourists by managing the environment in the coastal area, building more infrastructure and preventing waste and dirty water from flowing into the sea.

The project was discussed during a meeting at Preah Sihanouk province involving Tith Chantha, secretary of state at the ministry, and representatives of minister Thong Khon on Friday.

The study will focus on tourism and infrastructure in Preah Sihanouk, including Koh Rong. In particular it will look at keeping beaches clean and preventing dirty water from flowing into the sea from Ochheuteal and Otres beaches and at Koh Rong.

Mr. Chantha said the project will contribute to the development of tourism, improve the environment for social development and attract national and international tourists to Preah Sihanouk province.

This would be in accordance with the strategic plan for tourism development and the development policy for Cambodia. It would create a regional tourism development area and a better place to live and for sightseeing.

Ho Vandy, general-secretary of the Cambodia National Tourism Alliance, said that since Asean integration began, it was time to boost the living standard of people and the national image.

“It would provide a vision for Cambodians, at high and low levels, to improve on clean cities, clean resorts, and good service,” he said.

“All senior and local officials must commit themselves to making a tourism policy and strategy a reality.
