The Cambodian Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training (MLVT), on Monday, issued an announcement letter stating that Thai Ministry of Labour had decided to raise the minimum wage for Cambodian workers in Thailand, as well as to set new limit for their working hours.

According to the MLVT, the minimum wage for Cambodian workers in Bangkok and six other Thai provinces around Bangkok was raised to 310 Baht ($8.78) per day; 308 ($8.72) Baht per day for Cambodian workers in 13 other Thai provinces; 300 Baht ($8.50) per day for Cambodian workers in 8 other Thai provinces.

The MLVT also said that the working hours were cut down to 7 hours per day for workers working in risky condition that could affect their health. As for workers with regular job, their working schedule is eight hours per day.

Earlier this year, the MLVT gave advice to Cambodian workers, who had received migrant worker status cards from Thai authority, to contact the Cambodian Embassy in Bangkok which could help them to have a work permit in order to legally work in Thailand.

Mr. Heng Sour, a spokesman for the MLVT, previously told reporters that the undocumented workers were among one million Cambodian workers in Thailand. However, Thai authority has provided them migrant worker status cards to legalize their presence in Thailand. But they must have a work permit to be able to work in Thailand.
