The opposition party CNRP has been promising in front of thousands of their supporters that the CNRP would save more national budget in order to spend on the modernization of the Cambodian armed forces if they have a chance to win the upcoming elections.

CNRP's leaders added that if Cambodian people vote for them to lead the country, the CNRP would only replace ministers and deputy ministers from the ruling party in the present ministries by competent officials from their party. Regarding police officers and armed forces, the CNRP said they would not do anything, because police and armed forces are working to serve the nation, not to serve political party.

"The CNRP doesn't have its own armed forces, Cambodian armed forces are national armed forces which serve the nation. We would like our military be strong. We would save money to buy modern weapons for our soldiers for them to defend our nation," said Yim Sovann, spokesman for the CNRP.

The CNRP's statement was made following a warning made by Minister of Defense Tea Banh that he would use Cambodian armed forces to crush any group daring to protest the upcoming election results. Moreover, Prime Minister Hun Sen has been also stating that if his party ,which runs the country since 40 years, lose the elections, it is possible that war will occur.

On the other hand, during the current commune election campaign, Kem Sokha, president of the CNRP, also said that if Cambodian people vote for his party to lead the country, he would directly provide half a million dollars to each commune council for them to develop their commune.

According to Mr. Sokha, only $823 million is needed to provide half a million dollars to each commune council nationwide, comparing to the amount of money of about $5 billion approved by the National Assembly as the national budget in 2017 for the government to develop the country.
