In a meeting at the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training on Wednesday, Kensuke Tsuzuki, vice president of the Japan International Training Cooperation Organization (JITCO), told Minister Ith Samheng that the government of Japan has been amending the Law on Internship Training Program for Foreign Workers in a view to give more opportunity for them to go to work in Japan under a variety of internship programs. And the amended law will come into effect on November 1.
In response, Minister Ith Samheng thanked the government of Japan for cutting down a number of legal procedures in order to facilitate the processes of sending Cambodian workers to Japan under many internship programs. Moreover, the amended law does not require Cambodian workers to have prior experience in the field in which they will go to work in Japan.
On the other hand, with the amended law, Cambodian workers could sign contract to work in Japan for three years with the possibility to renew their contract to work for two more years.
However, Minister Ith Samheng hopes that in the near future, the government of Japan will provide to Cambodian workers the kind of Employment Permit System (ESP) visa as the government of South Korea is issuing for Cambodian workers going to work in South Korea.
According to the minister, as of today, around 4,000 Cambodians workers are working in Japan under different internship programs.
