Responding to the accusation, made by Sam Rainsy, former president of the opposition party CNRP, Sok Ey San, spokesman for the ruling party CPP, on Tuesday, said that in contrast, it was Mr. Rainsy himself who has violated the Cambodian Constitution by fleeing the country in order to avoid facing the Cambodian laws.
Mr. Ey san's statement was made two days after Mr. Rainsy accused the ruling party for being violating the Constitution and the Cambodia's Paris Peace Accords.
"In accordance with the Cambodia's Paris Peace Accords signed on October 23, 1991; the Royal Government is making efforts to walk in the democracy road and the rule of law in the country. As a result, if anyone commits an offense against the laws, she/he has to bare responsibility vis-a-vis the laws in a view to make Cambodia a country where the «Rule of Law» is supreme," said the spokesman.
Concerning this issue, an anonymous political analyst agreed with the spokesman by saying that if Mr. Rainsy think all the ruling party is doing is unconstitutional, he should use legal measure by filing a complaint to the Constitutional Council. And even though he think this institution is not independent, he has no choice. At least, we can wait and see what will be the response made by the council.
