Sar Keng, Minister of Interior, on Tuesday, has been filing a complaint to the Cambodian Supreme Court asking them the authority to dissolve nine inactive political parties that have allegeddly violated the Law on Political Parties by not sending their annual report to the ministry as requested by the law.
In the complaint letter, the minister told the Supreme Court that those nine political parties had been registered with the ministry, but they have not sent their annual report to the ministry as mentioning in the Article 31 of the Law on Political Parties. Another lawsuit against them is also on the process at the Phnom Penh Municipal Court. As a result, the municipal court has been issuing a warrant to suspend their activity.
According to the ministry, as of the end of the year 2016, 69 political parties were created in Cambodia. Among them, 44 parties were registered with the ministry, but 25 other parties were not registered yet.
