The Cambodian Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training (MLVT) will soon finish providing paperworks to 160,000 Cambodian workers in Thailand for them to legally work over there.
On Tuesday, Minister Ith Samheng said that a number of mobile teams from his ministry is doing a 100-Day-Campaign in order to provide passport, laissez-passer, and Overseas Cambodian Worker Card (OCWC) to around 160,000 Cambodian people working in Thailand.
The campaign has already started since August 1, when four more mobile teams have been dispatched to 200 different factories in Thailand where there are more than 70 Cambodians working in the factories. The fee for the paperworks is 950 Thai baht.
The minister added that besides this 100-Day-Campaign, his ministry and other ministries concerned would also provide passport to new workers. However, the fee for the new passport will be cheaper than the old one, it will be only 2,350 Thai baht ($68).
"If we succeed in Thailand, we will also provide paperworks to Cambodian workers in Malaysia where a number of Cambodians still don't have the right paperworks," said Minister Ith Samheng.
According to the MLVT, there are 1,050,000 Cambodian workers in Thailand. Among them, 700,000 Cambodians have legal paperworks while more than 30,000 other don't have them yet.
