BAKC to expand its law office in province

The Bar Association of the Kingdom of Cambodia (BAKC), on Monday, revealed its plan to expand its law office in each province nationwide in order to help poor Cambodians to have lawyer with free of charge to defend their case at the court.

Mr. Prum Vichet Akara, BAKC's president, told a local online newspaper that the future BAKC office in province would help poor Cambodian people to find a lawyer more easily.

"Usually, people have to come to the Capital Phnom Penh to ask the BAKC for legal aid or lawyer to defend them. But when the BAKC office will be expanded to each province, they don't need to come to Phnom Penh anymore," said Mr. Akara.

He added that in general, BAKC provincial office would be in provincial court complex. But if the provincial court does not have enough room, the BAKC would find a place for its provincial office elsewhere.

According to the KAKC, for the year 2018, the Cambodian government would provide 900,000,000 riel ($221688) to the BAKC for them to help poor Cambodians in term of legal aid. So far, the BAKC has provided lawyers to defend more than 2,000 cases.
