Lawmaker: Sam Rainsy has no power over CNRP

Tin Sokhavuth

Mr. Mao Monivann, vice president of the opposition party CNRP, told Fresh News on Sunday that by law, only the CNRP's president Kem Sokha has the rights to sign paper although Mr. Sokha was currently in custody, being accused for treason.

According to Mr. Monivann, Mr. Sokha was still the CNRP's president, because Mr. Sokha was still innocent, he was only accused by Prime Minister Hun Sen for treason. But his trial did not take place yet.

Mr. Monivann's statement came after the former CNRP's president Sam Rainsy, in his letter sent to Mr. Sokha, and in his video posted on his Facebook page, said that Mr. Sokha lost his rights to make any decision alone - all Mr. Sokha's decisions needed to be approved by Mrs. Mou Sokhour, Mr. Eng Chhai Eung, and Mr. Yim Sovann due to the fact that Mr. Sokha was under a pressure from the ruling party, as being held in custody.

However, a Facebook user under the screenname «Little Dragon of Asia» (កូននាគអាស៊ី), on Saturday, wrote that the opposition party CNRP would be dissolved in November 2017, and 100 CNRP lawmakers would be banned from doing politics for five years.

According to Fresh News, the Facebook user is supposed to be a high ranking government official close to Prime Minister Hun Sen, because all his statements on Facebook are always true, and the government has done exactly what he has been saying.

The Facebook user also said that Mr. Sam Rainsy himself has also committed offences leading to the dissolution of the CNRP. For example, in 1998 ,in a protest, Mr. Rainsy called on the US Government to launch cruise missile to destroy Prime Minister Hun Sen's house, and in 2011, Mr. Rainsy called on the Cambodian Armed Forces to turn their gun against the the current government etc.
