Despite pressure from international community concerning the possible dissolution of the opposition party CNRP, Foreign Minister Prak Sokhon, on Sunday, said that his ruling party CPP was still keep pushing the lawsuit for the dissolution of the CNRP, and 22 pieces of evidence were already sent to the Supreme Court.
"We still continue using legal measure, and a reallocation of seats will happen soon. For the first estimate, Funcinpec Party will obtain a big fortune of more than 40 seats, according to the planned scenario," said Mr. Sokon in his speech to his ruling party's supporters in Saang District, Kandal Province, on Sunday.
However, Mr. Sokhon added that it was up to the Supreme Court to find out whether the CNRP would be dissolved or not. Next, it was the National Election Committee (NEC) which had the rights to reallocate the CNRP's seats to different political parties challenging the elections.
Mr. Sokhon added that a number of CNRP lawmakers already fled the country knowing in advance what would happen to them. But, once abroad, they said it was the government who put pressure on them for them to flee the country. According to minister Sokhon, the truth was they knew very well what should be the punishment for their plan to betray the nation.
On Wednesday, His Majesty the King Norodom Sihamoni signed four amended election laws giving the possibility to reallocate the seats of dissolved political party to other parties challenging the elections.
Furthermore, a Facebook user under the screenname «Little Dragon of Asia» (កូននាគអាស៊ី), on Saturday, wrote that the opposition party CNRP would be dissolved in November 2017, and 100 CNRP lawmakers would be banned from doing politics for five years.
According to Fresh News, the Facebook user is supposed to be a high ranking government official close to Prime Minister Hun Sen, because all his statements on Facebook are always true, and the government has done exactly what he has been saying.
Regarding the dissolution of the CNRP, the US, UN, and EU said the dissolution would be a violation of the will of the Cambodian people who chose to vote for the CNRP - their choice and voice would be lost if the CNRP would be dissolved.
