
Four more border checkpoints would be built at the Cambodia-Thailand border to help tourists to cross the border between the two countries more easily.
Mr. Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism, on Monday, told reporters that the Kingdom of Cambodia and Thailand agreed to build four more border checkpoints in view to response to increasing number of tourists coming to visit the two countries.
"Recently, Cambodian and Thai royal governments have agreed to build four more border checkpoints - Anses border checkpoint in Preah Vihear province, Phnom Dei border checkpoint in Battambang province, Thmoda border checkpoint in Pursat province, and Chop Korki border checkpoint in Outdar Meanchey province - in addition to the existing 24 checkpoints in the country," said Minister Khon.
According to the Ministry of Tourism, there were five million tourists coming to visit Cambodia in 2016. And 620,000 jobs were created in the Cambodian tourism sector last year. The revenue from the tourism alone was $3,400 million or 13 percent of the Cambodian gross domestic product (GDP) in 2016.
Furthermore, the ministry predicted that at the end of 2017, the number of tourists coming to visit the kingdom would be 5.6 million.
