Another concrete bridge crossing Mekong River would be built to connect Steung Trang district to Krouch Chhmar district in Kampong Cham province. The construction of the bridge would cost around $50 million and would take three years to be finished.
Mr. Khouy Haksovann Thet, president of the Department of Public Works and Transport in Steung Trang district, told reporters on Wednesday that the cost for the construction of the bridge would be covered by the People's Republic of China. The bridge would be 1,136 meters long, 13 meters large. The construction would start early this year. However, the bridge did not have a name yet.
As for Mr. Keo Nearithy, Kampong Cham province deputy governor, he told reporters that the bridge would serve as another mean for Cambodian people to cross the huge Mekong River with free of charge. It also would facilitate the flows of goods across Kampong Cham, Kratia, Stueng Trang, and a number of provinces in Laos.
Mr. Nearithy added that the groundbreaking ceremony of the bridge would take place in January in the presence of Prime Minister Hun Sen.
As of today, two concrete bridges were already built across Mekong River in Kampong Cham province - the Kizuna Bridge that was put in service since 2001, and its construction was financed by the government of Japan, while the being constructed Koh Pen Bridge, financed by the Cambodian government, was temporary put in service since last year and already 97 percent built.
