The launch of Long Binh-Chrey Thom Bridge will take place next month to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the Cambodia-Vietnam diplomatic relations.

According to Mr. Chum Sunry, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MFAIC), the bridge connects Cambodia to Vietnam at Chrey Thom border checkpoint in Kandal province.

The bridge is 428 meters long, 13.5 meters wide. The total cost for its construction is $38,39 million of which $20,59 million were concessional loans from Vietnam, and $17,83 million were from the Cambodian government.

The groundbreaking ceremony took place in January 2014 in the presence of Prime Minister Hun Sen and Vietnamese counterpart Nguyễn Tấn Dũng.

Experts said the completed bridge will dramatically shorten travel time between the Cambodian capital Phnom Penh and the Vietnamese border. It will also facilitate economic growth, trade development, and poverty reduction in the border areas of both countries.
