Mr. Sam Rainsy, former president of the opposition party CNRP, recently wrote on Facebook a new political message attacking the existing nepotism and corruption in the Cambodian society.
His new message was "First, replace darkness by the Sun; second, replace nepotism and corruption by competence; third, replace the reign of theft by democracy."
Mr. Rainsy also raised a question whether the ruling party (CPP) would do a lawsuit against the CNRP or not if the CNRP uses one of these slogans [clauses].
In response to this new message, Mr. Sok Eysan, spokesman for the CPP, told reporters on Sunday that the CPP was waiting to see whether the new message expressed an incitement to racial discrimination and/or had a negative impact on national unity or not. If it did, the CPP would use legal measures against the message.
"We didn't make any conclusion yet regarding Mr. Sam Rainsy's new message. But if the message reflects an unrighteous political intention leading to racial discrimination and negative impact on national unity, we will review it," said the spokesman.
However, Mr. Eysan added that Mr. Sam Rainsy had no longer any power over on the CNRP, his political life had already become history. What Mr. Sam Rainsy did was to impress people after his resignation from the CNRP presidential function. Moreover, Mr. Sam Rainsy strongly regretted what he had done.
Concerning the previous CNRP's slogan "Replace commune chief serving the party by commune chief serving the people", the spokesman reiterated that the slogan had a meaning of incitement, provocation, and a strong contempt toward commune chiefs nationwide, who, by doing their job, were making efforts to serve the people without any political distinction.
Regarding the previous CNRP's slogan, the spokesman previously said that his party would file a complaint to the court.
As for the National Election Committee (NEC), they said it was too early for them to make any judgement on the CNRP's slogan, because the commune election campaign did not happen yet. It will take place only in May 20.
