Talk to settle Cambodia-Lao border problem

A talk was setup between Cambodian and Laotian armed force commanders on Wednesday at the Cambodia-Lao border in Steung Treng province to settle some problem of misunderstanding concerning the construction of border posts.

Svay Gnon, deputy operation commander in Steung Treng province, told reporters that Dem Lwea border checkpoint was closed for a few hours only on March 2 due to some misunderstanding between the armed forces of the two countries.

On the other hand, regarding the construction of the border posts at Dem Lwea and Dong Kralor checkpoints, Gen. Gnon said that the provincial governors of both countries will meet each other to to talk about this issue after the Khmer New Year.

He added that there was no more tension at the border in question, because both countries have agreed to stop the construction of the border posts.

In the same way, Sou Phay Phim Masan, Laotian commander in chief in Champasak province, told reporters that because of the meeting between the armed forces of both provinces, the border tension is calmed down. The use of armed forces at the border checkpoints was only a misunderstanding. As a result, General Masan was hoping the problem will be solved.
