The launching ceremony of Nirodh Water Treatment Plant phase II took place on Wednesday in Chbar Ampoeu district, Phnom Penh Capital in the presence of Prime Minister Hun Sen and Cham Prasidh, Minister of Industry and Handicrafts.
The groundbreaking ceremony of the water treatment plant took place in 2014. And the total cost for the construction of the water plant is $60.90 million - $24.90 million was from Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority (PPWSA), the rest was the loan with low interest from Agence Française de Développement (AFD).
According to Mr. Prasidh, with the new expansion, the water plant's capacity of producing clean water will increase from 130 cubic meters to 260 cubic meters per year.
Since its inception, PPWSA has spent $115 million to build the necessary clean water system in order to respond to the increasing need of the people living in the capital.
Regarding this cost, $13 million was from PPWSA itself, and another $102 million was the loans from AFD, the World Bank (WB), and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
