"Enterprises of any kind and professionals such as lawyers, bailiffs, and notaries who need to recruit staff to work in their profession must appeal to Cambodians as a first priority," read Article 263 of the Cambodian Labor Law.

The Cambodian Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction (MLMUPC) plans to expel all unregistered foreign architects working in Cambodia in a view to reserve the architectural job for young Cambodians.

According to the ministry, the move is not some sort of racial discrimination, it only a kind of «Law Enforcement» in order to give more opportunity to young Cambodians who had just graduated from college in the field of architecture.

As reported by Agence Kampuchea Presse (AKP), a state-run new agency, the government will soon send a group of inspectors from the MLMUPC and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation to go to inspect different construction sites in the country in a view to check legal status of all foreign architects on the site.

Pheung Sophon, under secretary of state at the MLMUPC, said that at the present time, Cambodian architects are qualified enough to do the architectural job in the country. Even sometime, they could do better than foreigners regarding Cambodian architectures.

In 2017, for the last seven months, the investment in the field of construction reaches $5,000 million. Comparing to last year, the rate of investment in the construction sector increased to more than 77 percent.
