General Hun Manet, Prime Minister Hun Sen's eldest son, on Saturday, met with around 200 Cambodians living in Germany. Despite a protest, the visit seemed to be peaceful and welcomed.

According to Fresh News, a local online newspaper, Gen. Manet told Cambodian people that they could choose to believe what he said or not. And his visit to Cambodian people in Germany was not to hide what was happened in Cambodia.

"I came here not to tell you to hate somebody, neither to tell you to slander anybody, with an attempt to divide Cambodian people. Informing people about what was happened in the country, is everybody's right, and the right of every political party. Cambodian people have the right to choose to listen to whoever they like. For them them to think over later. And I don't push you to believe what I say right now," said Gen. Manet.

West Germany was one of many countries in the European Union that accepted Cambodian refugees during the civil war from 1979 to 1998. That is why, today, we can meet many Cambodians living in Germany.

The diplomatic relation between Cambodia and Germany was reopened in 1993. Since then, Germany has cooperated with the Cambodian Government to develop Cambodia in many fields such as rural development, healthcare, good governance etc.
