General Electric's vice president to be appointed as PM's advisor

Mr. John E. Rice, vice president of the US giant company General Electric (GE) in Cambodia, would soon be appointed as Prime Minister Hun Sen own advisor by His Majesty the King Norodom Sihamoni following the premier's proposal.

According to Prime Minister Hun Sen's Facebook page, in a meeting with Mr. Rice at the Peace Palace on Thursday, Prime Minister Hun Sen said that Mr. Rice had a lot of experience in doing business in Cambodia. As a result, he knew very well on how to help Cambodian people develop their country.

In response, Mr. Rice said that he was very happy to be an advisor to the prime minister of Cambodia.

Mr. Rice also told the premier that at the present time, GE in Cambodia was investing in two main sectors - electricity and healthcare. For this reason, GE has already equipped 12 hospitals in the country with GE healthcare products.

Moreover, Mr. Rice added that his company was studying a project to build a coal power plant in Sihanoukville, and to build power grids in order to distribute electricity from the power plant to Cambodian people. The study would be finished at the end of this year.

So far, for the first phase, the US giant company GE has equipped 12 hospitals in the country with GE water filter system that could help the hospitals to have enough clean water for daily use. For the second phase, the company would equip 12 more hospitals to have the same GE water filter system.

In 2012, the US giant company GE was listed the fourth-largest in the world. In 2017, the company ranked as the thirteenth-largest company in the US by gross revenue. In 2011, GE ranked as the 14th most profitable.

As of 2016, the company was doing business in the field of Aviation, Current, Digital, Energy Connections, Global Research, Healthcare, Lighting, Oil and Gas, Power, Renewable Energy, Transportation, Financial services, Medical devices, Life Sciences, Pharmaceutical, Automotive, Software Development and Engineering industries.
