Heng Ratana, Director General of the Cambodian Mine Action Center (CMAC), on Saturday, confirmed that the US chemical weapons, found in Cambodia's Svay Rieng Province, are not pure tear gas barrel as mentioning by the US Embassy in Phnom Penh. They are the real bombs containing destructive explosive that could kill Cambodian people instantly if those bombs exploded.
"Usually, if they are pure tear gas barrel, we couldn't see anything left in the broken barrels. The tear gas should be gone with the win really fast in a short period of time," wrote Mr. Ratana on his Facebook page.
According to Mr. Ratana, the found chemical weapons contain explosive warhead and a possible chemical substance in the kind of CS-2. They are big barrel with more than a half meter width and around one meter height.
Mr. Ratana added that there are three kinds of chlorobenzalmalononitrile (CS) chemical substance - CS, CS-1, CS-2. «CS» is a kind of chemical substance or tear gas mostly used to disperse protesters. «CS-1» is a kind of powder mostly used as poisonous explosive that could melt in water or evaporate.
"As for CS-2, it does not melt in water nor evaporate. As a result, the chemical bombs dropped by US planes in Korki commune should contain chemical substance CS-2. If those bombs contain chemical substance CS or CS-1, they should evaporate or melt in water since long time ago," added Mr. Ratana.
He added that CMAC would cooperate with the Cambodian chemical authority to find out exactly what would be in the found chemical bombs.
At this point, an anonymous political analyst agreed with Mr. Ratana to say that it is very doubtful that the US Air Force dropped tons of tear gas barrels to make the Viet Cong cry during the Vietnam War. The found barrels are the real chemical bombs because they contain explosive warhead.
"If CMAC finds out that the chemical substance in the found US chemical bombs is biologically very harmful, Cambodian victims from this bomb could sue the US companies that had produced the bombs, as many American veterans did for the «Agent Orange» chemical weapon that affected their health really bad during the Vietnam War.
The veterans won the case and got millions of dollar as compensation, because the US court found out that it was «DIOXIDE» chemical substance in Agent Orange that caused long-term health problems or birth defects to the US veterans and their children," said the political analyst.
Mr. Ratana also said that it was very dangerous to tell local residents that real chemical bombs with real explosive warhead found in their village were only a kind of tear gas barrel used to disperse protesters. This fact could make local residents neglect the deadly danger caused by those chemical bombs.
The US Embassy in Phnom Penh, on Thursday, said that there was no evidence proving the US Chemical bombs, found in Cambodia's Svay Rieng province, are dangerous. To the embassy, those bombs were just tear gas that government around the world uses to disperse protesters.
"[...] there is no evidence linking it to long-term health problems or birth defects. Indeed, if there was, authorities in many countries across the world, including both Cambodia (goo.gl/e4p7xK) and the United States, would not use it," read the embassy's statement published on their Facebook page.
Furthermore, according to the embassy, Cambodia already lost its right to complain to the UN about the US chemical bombs, because the Kingdom of Cambodia found the chemical bombs since years ago, and the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) requires State Party to file the complaint within 180 days after the chemical bombs were found on its territory.
